The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and managed locally by the City to support community-driven initiatives that improve quality of life for residents.
CDBG funds are used to develop viable communities by providing decent housing, creating suitable living environments, and expanding economic opportunities—primarily for low- and moderate-income individuals and households.
Through strategic investments, the CDBG Program supports a wide range of eligible activities, including:
- Affordable housing rehabilitation and preservation
- Public facilities and infrastructure improvements
- Public services for vulnerable populations
- Economic development and job creation activities
- Neighborhood revitalization and community enhancement projects
All CDBG-funded activities must meet at least one of HUD’s national objectives:
- Benefit low- and moderate-income persons
- Prevent or eliminate slums or blight
- Address urgent community development needs
The City administers CDBG funds through an annual planning and application process that prioritizes community needs identified through public input and data-driven analysis. Local nonprofit organizations, developers, and public agencies may apply for funding for eligible activities that align with the City’s Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan.
The CDBG Program plays a critical role in strengthening neighborhoods, supporting community partners.
